Gingered Pear Marmalade

Okay, so I said that I wasn't going to make a new flavor for a while...right? ....But, I was trying to come up with a recipe for a friend of mine for Ginger Jam.... Well, I made 2 kinds... one turned into "Roadkill Jam with FIRE" a.k.a. Ginger Root Jam, and the other was
Gingered Pear Marmalade.
It is made with fresh pears, fresh squeezed orange juice & zest, fresh squeezed lemon juice & zest, ginger, a teeny bit of salt, cane sugar, and freezer pectin.
It is awesome!!! First you taste the pears, then the oranges and lemons, then there's a bit of zing from the ginger!!! It's perfect!!
I know I'm a bit fan of marmalade, because I LOVE the extra added flavor of citrus zest!! It makes the taste become more alive and fresh!

Sugar! Sugar! Sugar!

Did you know that jam is essentually half fruit/half sugar? How could that even remotely taste good? Wouldn't it just be easier to go to your pantry, get out the sugar, and eat it straight from the bag? I think that some people think that in order to have foods taste sweet, there needs to be ALOT of sugar in it. Why...? To make dentists happy....? To make our sweet tooth content...? I don't understand...
I guess that's why my jam is so heavenly, because it's mostly fruit!! Why not make the fruit determine the flavor.....it's better that way.

New Ways to use Jam

So, I like getting new ways to use my jam in food besides, the obvious! It tastes great on ice cream, cheesecake, cake, ...basically anything that fresh fruit would be good with. It also makes lemonade have a much sweeter flavor. My kids like to eat it straight out of the sample cups that are in my freezer... =-)
My friend, Renee, told me that the Bluezberry with Lime Jam tastes great on Cream of Wheat!! If you have any ideas that I haven't mentioned, I would really like to hear it! You could e-mail me at kalee@heavenlyjam.net. So speaking of ideas, my friend Derryce sent me a drink recipe.

White Cranberry Strawberry Juice (or just Cran Strawberry)
Orange Juice
2 tablespoons of Black Strawberry Jam
Ice

Add all to a martini shaker and shake, add to glass. Pull out ice after and add the chunks from the shaker (or just put it all in a blender and have it blended.)

My Snowball Mix-up

So...a friend of mine told me the other day....Wow, you are very organized with your jams, with all of the flyers and everything! Well... in a perfect world, it would be nice to be all organized but you know those little mistakes that snowball into bigger mistakes...?? YES, I made one of those!! I noticed tonight that on my sample flyer I put that my website/blog is www.heavenlyjam.com IT IS NOT!! It is http://www.heavenlyjam.net/ !!!! So, I went into my trusty computer here to change it and noticed that I put .com on ALL of my labels too!! No wonder why, no one is looking at my blog!!! Forgive me. =-) Silly me!! So, if you have gotten one of my jams recently...so sorry!! It will be fixed a.s.a.p.!

Hi there! Sorry that it has been so long since I have posted! But, I have been BUSY!!!

I made a new flavor.... drum roll please...... APRICOT JAM!!!!
It is made with fresh apricots (of course!!), cane sugar, freezer pectin, fresh lemon juice, and pure almond extract. It comes in the 8 fl. oz. packs for $5.00.
Yay! So, now I have 10 flavors!

Strawberry Jam
Verry Berry Jam
Razberry Jam
Black Strawberry Jam
Bluezberry with Lime Jam
Apricot Jam
Apple Butter
Grape Jelly
No Sugar Added Strawberry
No Sugar Added Verry Berry

...And I think that I'm done making new flavors(for now)---even though it's so much fun!!!

Also, I have been doing some research on "the benefits of berries." Since my jam is essentually raw fruit, there are a whole lot of vitamins and nutrients in them. This is what I have discovered so far....

Ahhh!!! Blueberries.....They are the most wonderful fruit!!

Blueberries are one of the best sources of antioxidents!! They are an excellent source of Vitamin C and E. They also improve eye sight, improve memory, have the ablilty of reducing formation of blood clots, lower the risk of heart disease, and reducing the risk of UTIs.

Can you believe that?....all of that in just one amazing little fruit...

Behold the Strawberry!!!!

Strawberries are also an excellent source of Vitamin C and have lots of antioxidents. They also contain vitamin B5, B6 (which is good for your memory), K, potassium, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids. Wow!!!

So, I guess some would say..... that eating my jam would be better for your body. And some might snicker when everyone around you is getting sick and you're not.....all because of jam!!! Who knows.....it could happen.... =-)
