Fall is finally here!!!

Fall is finally here!!!.... it's time to say GOODBYE to triple digits temperatures and HELLO to soups, stews, and apple pie.

I love when the weather changes, but I think that most of the time it catches me off guard...and this is the reason why.... You finally get used to about the mid 90s and you're thinking about getting out your warmer clothes for Halloween, but haven't washed any yet... and then the next day.... BAM it's windy, cold and in the low 70s....burr!!! But then the next week (watch) it will be back up to the mid 90s again. It's very confusing... what to wear...what to wear!! I guess the best thing to wear is a t-shirt with a sweater, just in case!!! =*)

If you're like me, you're probably thinking about Christmas...ugh! presents...presents...presents... Presents mean more different to a parent than a child. Parents are thinking... how am I going to pay for all of this, still have my sanity and a little extra in my checking account in January. Children are thinking...how many presents AM I going to get this year!

Well, I can't help you with shopping for your children, but I can give you an idea for your friends and family...

For a limited time, for the holiday season, I am making 2 Holiday Flavors!!

CRAN-APPLE BUTTER is made from fresh apples, fresh cranberries, fresh oranges, cane sugar, brown sugar, freezer pectin, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and lemon juice. It's available in 8 fl. oz. freezer packs for $5.00
The cran-apple butter tastes similar to my original apple butter, but with the bittersweet taste of the cranberries and sweetness of the oranges. It compliments the taste of turkey much better than canned cranberries.

POMEGRANATE JELLY is made from pomegranate juice, cane sugar, and freezer pectin. It's available in 8 fl. oz. freezer packs for $5.00

**Thank you for listening to my ranting...no more, I promise... (fingers crossed =-x)

Peach Jam done right!!

So, for those of you who like variety in your flavors of jam, I made a new flavor! I thought that even though I have a wide variety of jams... my thoughts always came back to peach. I once tried to make peach jam, but it turned out disastrously wrong! But, persistance pays off...! Because, I finally made a recipe for Peach Jam that will knock your socks off!!! If you close your eyes and just let your taste buds take over, it's like being in a field of peach trees with no worries and no cares. It's just what your tongue needs. Not to mention all of the healthy nutients that are so vital to your body.
I make my peach jam with fresh ripe peaches, fresh squeezed lemon juice, cane sugar, and freezer pectin.

My husband had an interesting experiment for me to try.....peaches with strawberries. Sounds interesting.....tastes divine!!! I make it with fresh ripe peaches, fresh strawberries, fresh squeezed lemon juice, cane sugar, and freezer pectin. It tastes like the peach jam, but smoother, softer, if that sounds possible.

I will post pictures as soon as I can!! So you can see for yourself all the yummy goodness...

I don't know I guess you'll just have to try it!! I have FREE sample bags that contain samples of all of my jams. That way you can try them all and find out which ones are your favorite!

Chocolate Torte with Razberry Jam

This is a Chocolate Torte with Razberry Jam and Vanilla Ice Cream. It is Awesome!!! If you've never had a chocolate torte it is something that you NEED to try!! It is very rich and creamy. It melts in your mouth and makes you feel ...... sinful!! Doesn't that look sooo tasty?
I made the Chocolate Torte from a recipe that I found on the internet. Make it then just thaw out some Razberry Jam and put it in the microwave for about 15 seconds, and spoon it on... and viola, a tasty, delicous, melt in your mouth dessert....mmm...mmm!!
I'm sure that if you wanted that extra burst of flavor you could put my jam on brownies too!! =-)

Gingered Pear Marmalade

Okay, so I said that I wasn't going to make a new flavor for a while...right? ....But, I was trying to come up with a recipe for a friend of mine for Ginger Jam.... Well, I made 2 kinds... one turned into "Roadkill Jam with FIRE" a.k.a. Ginger Root Jam, and the other was
Gingered Pear Marmalade.
It is made with fresh pears, fresh squeezed orange juice & zest, fresh squeezed lemon juice & zest, ginger, a teeny bit of salt, cane sugar, and freezer pectin.
It is awesome!!! First you taste the pears, then the oranges and lemons, then there's a bit of zing from the ginger!!! It's perfect!!
I know I'm a bit fan of marmalade, because I LOVE the extra added flavor of citrus zest!! It makes the taste become more alive and fresh!

Sugar! Sugar! Sugar!

Did you know that jam is essentually half fruit/half sugar? How could that even remotely taste good? Wouldn't it just be easier to go to your pantry, get out the sugar, and eat it straight from the bag? I think that some people think that in order to have foods taste sweet, there needs to be ALOT of sugar in it. Why...? To make dentists happy....? To make our sweet tooth content...? I don't understand...
I guess that's why my jam is so heavenly, because it's mostly fruit!! Why not make the fruit determine the flavor.....it's better that way.

New Ways to use Jam

So, I like getting new ways to use my jam in food besides, the obvious! It tastes great on ice cream, cheesecake, cake, ...basically anything that fresh fruit would be good with. It also makes lemonade have a much sweeter flavor. My kids like to eat it straight out of the sample cups that are in my freezer... =-)
My friend, Renee, told me that the Bluezberry with Lime Jam tastes great on Cream of Wheat!! If you have any ideas that I haven't mentioned, I would really like to hear it! You could e-mail me at kalee@heavenlyjam.net. So speaking of ideas, my friend Derryce sent me a drink recipe.

White Cranberry Strawberry Juice (or just Cran Strawberry)
Orange Juice
2 tablespoons of Black Strawberry Jam
Ice

Add all to a martini shaker and shake, add to glass. Pull out ice after and add the chunks from the shaker (or just put it all in a blender and have it blended.)

My Snowball Mix-up

So...a friend of mine told me the other day....Wow, you are very organized with your jams, with all of the flyers and everything! Well... in a perfect world, it would be nice to be all organized but you know those little mistakes that snowball into bigger mistakes...?? YES, I made one of those!! I noticed tonight that on my sample flyer I put that my website/blog is www.heavenlyjam.com IT IS NOT!! It is http://www.heavenlyjam.net/ !!!! So, I went into my trusty computer here to change it and noticed that I put .com on ALL of my labels too!! No wonder why, no one is looking at my blog!!! Forgive me. =-) Silly me!! So, if you have gotten one of my jams recently...so sorry!! It will be fixed a.s.a.p.!

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Hi there! Sorry that it has been so long since I have posted! But, I have been BUSY!!!

I made a new flavor.... drum roll please...... APRICOT JAM!!!!
It is made with fresh apricots (of course!!), cane sugar, freezer pectin, fresh lemon juice, and pure almond extract. It comes in the 8 fl. oz. packs for $5.00.
Yay! So, now I have 10 flavors!

Strawberry Jam
Verry Berry Jam
Razberry Jam
Black Strawberry Jam
Bluezberry with Lime Jam
Apricot Jam
Apple Butter
Grape Jelly
No Sugar Added Strawberry
No Sugar Added Verry Berry

...And I think that I'm done making new flavors(for now)---even though it's so much fun!!!

Also, I have been doing some research on "the benefits of berries." Since my jam is essentually raw fruit, there are a whole lot of vitamins and nutrients in them. This is what I have discovered so far....

Ahhh!!! Blueberries.....They are the most wonderful fruit!!

Blueberries are one of the best sources of antioxidents!! They are an excellent source of Vitamin C and E. They also improve eye sight, improve memory, have the ablilty of reducing formation of blood clots, lower the risk of heart disease, and reducing the risk of UTIs.

Can you believe that?....all of that in just one amazing little fruit...

Behold the Strawberry!!!!

Strawberries are also an excellent source of Vitamin C and have lots of antioxidents. They also contain vitamin B5, B6 (which is good for your memory), K, potassium, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids. Wow!!!

So, I guess some would say..... that eating my jam would be better for your body. And some might snicker when everyone around you is getting sick and you're not.....all because of jam!!! Who knows.....it could happen.... =-)

I don't know if it would be good on sandwiches, but I had it tonight on cheesecake and it was fabulous!! The berries and lime add a bit of zing to it...

Grilled Citrus Chicken with Strawberry Jam

There is a picture of this chicken on the left. It is really quite good! I'm sure any of the "berry" jam would compliment this chicken recipe. Even though I have only tried with Strawberry Jam. If you've made it with any other jams, let me know if it turns out well! =-)

Marinade:

1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup fresh orange juice
zest of 1 lemon, lime, and orange
1/2 cup olive oil
4 cloves of garlic, minced
2 tsp. ground black pepper
1 tsp. salt
3 crushed bay leaves
3 Tbsp. fresh cilantro, chopped

Combine all ingredients in a gallon ziploc bag and let stand in room temperature for 30 minutes. Put in thawed chicken breasts (up to 8) and marinate for 2 to 3 hours in the refridgerator. Pour juice over chicken periodocally until done. Chop into chunks. Combine with some Strawberry Jam (for that sweet and tart flavor). Serve over a bed of rice.

Apple Butter recipe

I figured that it would be more versatile if there could be more things to make with my jam besides just peanut butter and jam sandwiches and ice cream toppings. I made these last week for my kids' teachers and they were fabulous!!

Apple Cinnamon Rolls

DOUGH:
• 1 cup hot water
• 1 cup milk
• 2 Tbsp. yeast
• ½ cup sugar
• 2 tsp. salt
• 2 cup bread (sifted) flour
• 1 egg

Mix up by hand, then add…

• 1/3 cup oil
• 2 ½ cup bread sifted flour

FILLING:

• melted butter
• brown sugar
• cinnamon
• raisins (optional)
• pecans (optional)
• APPLE BUTTER (optional)

FROSTING:

• 2 cups powdered sugar
• 1 tablespoon butter, melted
• 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
• milk or cream (2 to 4 tablespoons)
• 4 Tbsp. APPLE BUTTER

Mix together until clumpy. Put it into the bread maker to mix (dough) only.
Take out, knead it, and roll it until it’s a flat rectangle. Put melted butter on it. Sprinkle brown sugar, cinnamon, raisins, and sliced pecans on it. (you can also put in some APPLE BUTTER too, for that extra appley flavor). Roll it up and slice with non-flavored dental floss. Put in a deep pan. Let them rise for about 1 ½ to 2 hours. Bake at 375 degrees for 15-17 minutes. Let cool for 15 min. Then put on frosting. Enjoy!!
Makes about 3-8 inch round pans.

Why I started it all

As I said before, I started making strawberry jam first. What really started it all, was that I was tired of buying jam at the store that I couldn't really taste!! It resembled strawberry, kind of....but it wasn't like biting into a one and really tasting it. I went to the store and bought a couple pounds of fresh strawberries and went home and made some jam. The next week or so, I called up my friends and family and asked them if they would like me to make some for them too. I think that I surprised the cashier at Costco when I went in and bought about 60 pounds of strawberries the next day.
And the rest is...well, history. It's had its ups and downs. I like making new kinds, and I'm thrilled when they work out... One time I tried to make Peach Jam.....IT was gross!! It tasted like pumpkins!! No matter what I added to it to make it not taste like pumpkins, made it taste less like anything that I would ever eat voluntarily. And I couldn't really package it and sell "what once was peach, but tasted like pumpkins, but now tastes like road kill Jam!!" I think that would have ended my fun in sharing it REAL quick!!!

Welcome to by jam blog! =*)

Welcome to my jam blog!!! I was working on trying to get a website going, but this is FREE and I get to do this myself!! Now, bare with me, this is my first blog. So...well, I will just learn as I go.

I started making jam in November 2008. With the first flavor being Strawberry! And then things just started to take off. Now there are 8 flavors!! Most recently being...Black Strawberry!

All of my jams are from FRESH ingredients. So what you're tasting is the fruit with some sugar (or Xylitol for the No Sugar Added kind) and freezer pectin. And that's it!! There are NO artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, or any fillers that are in the store bought diluted jam.

This jam bring back memories of Grandma's cooking, and fresh crisp homegrown goodness.

These are the flavors:
  • Strawberry
  • Verry Berry
  • Razberry
  • Black Strawberry
  • Apple Butter
  • Grape Jelly
  • No Sugar Added Strawberry
  • No Sugar Added Verry Berry

I have also made Pomegranate Jelly and Cran-Apple Butter, which I made for around Christmas time. I do have access to more Pomegranate Juice, so if there is anyone that would like some... I will make it again. =-)

Cran-Apple Butter is made with fresh cranberries and I haven't been able to find them for a decent price yet. It's made with the same ingredients as the Apple Butter but it has fresh cranberries and fresh oranges in it too. It is really a more like a fall-winter type of flavor, at least it is for me. It smells like warm apple pie with a bit of orange sweetness.
